When liberal USians talk about the differences President Obama has made and will make, they usually focus on domestic issues and ending the US occupation of Iraq. I don't blame them for being happy and hopeful. There's no doubt that many aspects of US life will improve under Obama. The fact of his election alone - and I don't mean his skin colour - is reason to cheer. In my experience, the Obama crowd rarely mentions US foreign policy, except in terms of Iraq and Iran, where they expect improvement, and Afghanistan, where they don't. It seems that most people either don't grasp the US's pervasive and often disastrous global influence, or they understand and accept that it won't change. Kyle, I lost a comment of yours, about when we decided to move...? Can you direct me to it?
ReplyDeleteOh, yow, wow. Two weeks, or are you out the door this evening?
ReplyDeleteWill you be on the dole? Getting pogey?
ReplyDeleteRepeated here:
ReplyDeleteSo when exactly did you make the decision to move to Canada? (I looked through the archives, and found your reasons why Canada, and why now, but not when you made up your mind)
When you started saving up money a couple of years ago, had you already decided where you were going to go?
Congratulations on freeing yourself from yet another impediment to your move. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, "August 28", yeah... never mind. :)
ReplyDeleteWould you like me to go stick my head in a bucket of water? I've got one handy...
Guess this is one of those few times one can actually say "congratulations on becoming unemployed."
ReplyDelete;-)
So, Congrats to you, L-G!!!!
Yes, congratulations is an odd thing to say to the unemployed. But, congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody!

Kyle, that's a good question. I'll blog on it tomorrow morning.
Would you like me to go stick my head in a bucket of water? I've got one handy...
I love this line. It is just too, too funny.
ALPF, how great! Get this, I am actually registered at that 43things site. I signed up so I could lend encouragement to another American interested in making the move. I will visit them both, and blog on it further...
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and happy unemployment!
