star spangled irony

Blogger.com is a free service, and a small ad runs at the top of the screen. Though I am hugely ad-phobic, this one is fairly innocuous. It is small, the colors blend in, it doesn't pop up or move across the screen, and it only advertises google searches.



But apparently the content of those google searches are taken from keywords in the blog posts. Until I post something new, the ad is offering searches for national anthems! Isn't that ironic, given my feelings about those silly songs?

wolves get reprieve, let's make it permanent

While I wait for an important update on some war resister news, I'll post this info from NRDC. If you value the wild places left on earth, and you oppose killing animals simply out of bigotry and bloodlust, please sign this petition. Public opinion does matter in these issues. The fate of Yellowstone's wolves is hanging in the balance right now. Hundreds of wolves got a last-minute reprieve when President Obama put a freeze on Bush's midnight rule that would have stripped wolves in the Northern Rockies of their endangered species protection -- leaving them vulnerable to mass killing. But this "stay of execution" is only temporary, pending review by the new Interior Secretary. Our friend Mr Couch is back. For your reference, I had replied to Kyle: Last time I checked, leaving a great job, a great place to live and all one's friends and family, and starting over in a new country with no contacts and no employment was not cowardly.
