Independent journalist Greg Palast writes : The Bush administration made plans for war and for Iraq's oil before the 9/11 attacks, sparking a policy battle between neo-cons and Big Oil, BBC's Newsnight has revealed. Two years ago today - when President George Bush announced US, British and Allied forces would begin to bomb Baghdad - protestors claimed the US had a secret plan for Iraq's oil once Saddam had been conquered. In fact there were two conflicting plans, setting off a hidden policy war between neo-conservatives at the Pentagon, on one side, versus a combination of "Big Oil" executives and US State Department "pragmatists." "Big Oil" appears to have won. The latest plan, obtained by Newsnight from the US State Department was, we learned, drafted with the help of American oil industry consultants. Insiders told Newsnight that planning began "within weeks" of Bush's first taking office in 2001, long before the September 11th...
Kyle, I lost a comment of yours, about when we decided to move...? Can you direct me to it?
ReplyDeleteOh, yow, wow. Two weeks, or are you out the door this evening?
ReplyDeleteWill you be on the dole? Getting pogey?
ReplyDeleteRepeated here:
ReplyDeleteSo when exactly did you make the decision to move to Canada? (I looked through the archives, and found your reasons why Canada, and why now, but not when you made up your mind)
When you started saving up money a couple of years ago, had you already decided where you were going to go?
Congratulations on freeing yourself from yet another impediment to your move. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, "August 28", yeah... never mind. :)
ReplyDeleteWould you like me to go stick my head in a bucket of water? I've got one handy...
Guess this is one of those few times one can actually say "congratulations on becoming unemployed."
ReplyDelete;-)
So, Congrats to you, L-G!!!!
Yes, congratulations is an odd thing to say to the unemployed. But, congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody!
ReplyDeleteI'm technically not unemployed until the end of August, and even then we'll have writing income (though that isn't enough to live on long-term). But it felt so good to take this step!
Kyle, that's a good question. I'll blog on it tomorrow morning.
Would you like me to go stick my head in a bucket of water? I've got one handy...
I love this line. It is just too, too funny.
ALPF, how great! Get this, I am actually registered at that 43things site. I signed up so I could lend encouragement to another American interested in making the move. I will visit them both, and blog on it further...
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and happy unemployment!
